My Story:
I have lived in the Eugene area since 1990. I am the mother of three amazing children: Deva 18, Selah 15 and Sage 11. All of my births were attended by homebirth midwives. My own personal experiences include: birthing by ceserean section, a VBAC (vaginal birth after ceserean) and an amazing homebirth. After 9 years as an apprentice midwife, I am now a certified professional midwife (CPM) and have my own midwifery practice serving the Eugene, Springfield and outlying communities.
My Simple Philosophy on Birth:
Midwives are experts in normal, healthy preganancy and birth. When there is trust and faith in the natural birth process, midwife attended birthing can be a safe and empowering experience for both mother and baby. I know that babies can be born safely at home without unnecessary interventions, medications and medical prodeures. I follow the standards of the Midwives Model of Care which supports women through holistic pregnancy and birth practices. I believe that all women and babies deserve home based midwifery care for a gentle beginning and welcome into this world.
Midwifery Education:
I have apprenticed at birth and been traditionally trained as a midwife under the guidance and supervision of four community midwives. Apprenticeship is direct hands-on learning under a preceptor midwife with self-guided educational study. Since 2001, I have been attending births as an assitant midwife. I have worked in many different birth settings and have witnessed and assisted in some amazing home and hospital births, which include: 3 sets of twins, 3 vaginal breech deliveries, waterbirth, VBAC, and triplets. For a year, I worked in an independent out of hospital waterbirth center doing birthcenter and home births. In 2003, I began attending births for close friends as a primary midwife and continued my midwifery education as an apprentice. I followed the standards set by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) to obtain the practical skills and to meet the educational requirements to work towards my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) certification. Under these guidelines, I attained my CPM credentials in 2009. I teach childbirth education and preparation courses with a focus on non-medicated birth. I have had my own midwifery practice since 2007.
